To celebrate the partnership between Stranger Things and Clarks as they launched their Hellfire Club collection, we wanted to create a video that felt so retro it might have even appeared on the Wheeler’s computer.
Our goal was to drive awareness to the new lifestyle collection by incorporating elements from the series while also ensuring the shoes were focus number One.
From script to (80s monitor) screen, the process for creating this Stranger Things x Clarks Hellfire Club video was unique in its execution and delivery.
After receiving the product photography from our partners, our team got to work ideating around an asset that activated the Stranger Things fandom while also feeling native to social platforms. We landed on this motion graphic video that feels like it would have played in 1980s Hawkins, while simultaneously giving users a chance to walk down running up that hill of memory lane.
Our team’s first step was to write a script detailing exactly what would appear on the computer screen, including pop-up timing and relatable copy that would cater to all the Stranger Things nerds. We planted Easter eggs throughout the video including a fan-favorite password to unlock the Hellfire goods.
Once the script was finalized, it was passed off to the production team, and friends don’t lie, they crushed it. Because we did not have a vintage computer available, the team was tasked with creating something that felt three dimensional from a stock image. Although it was no easy feat, the team delivered – 11/10.
When working with multiple brands and mediums, it can be challenging to make an asset that feels cohesive and makes sense for all parties involved. Keeping the series and product at the center of our focus allowed us to develop a video that brought everything together seamlessly.
Our goal while creating this video was to bring awareness to the collaboration of Stranger Things and Clarks, while also delivering an asset that didn’t feel like a marketing ad, but instead a native post on social media.
Garnering over 88,000 views, fans were turned upside down over the collaboration. The proof was in the comments, as fans were quick to chime in over the Clarks collection along with the Stranger Things tie-ins.
