Envoy Air Connects People & Values to Celebrate AAPI Month

Entered in Multicultural Community Engagement

Objectives

At Envoy, valuing our differences is fundamental to our culture. We proudly celebrate diversity and inclusion across our organization to create a positive workplace for everyone. We believe that the power of innovation lies in the diversity among our ranks. In alignment with these values, Envoy Air invests in a Culture, Diversity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee to continually assess opportunities and address challenges that stand in our way of achieving equity within our workforce.

We aspire to promote diversity and inclusion within our organization and across the aviation industry. Historically, many minorities have been underrepresented in the aviation industry. Our efforts to bridge the gaps by continuously working on initiatives that support diversity and inclusion, along with targeted efforts to expand career accessibility, are aimed at improving diversity across the industry.

Envoy is a proud Platinum Sponsor of the Professional Asian Pilots Association (PAPA) and we stand in full support of their mission to overcome Asian underrepresentation in the aviation industry.

Strategy and Execution

To demonstrate our commitment to diversity and inclusion, Envoy Air connected with some of our Asian/Pacific team members to create a series of interviews. In these interviews, we hoped to capture personal stories that would celebrate their heritage and foster a sense of belonging that minorities–especially those of Asian/Pacific heritage could relate to. We wanted to send a warm, heartfelt message across the industry that said that Envoy Air values who you are.

The interviews were published on Envoy’s company blog and in the internal company newsletter–reaching more than 18K employees. Approximately 60% of Envoy’s workforce are minorities so it was important that the key message was widely distributed throughout the company. But we also wanted to share our message with a larger audience across the aviation industry so the interviews were shared on Envoy’s social media channels as well.

Our message was timed for distribution during Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month to promote maximum visibility. We also strategically selected Envoy First Officer Clifford Villanueva, a valued member of the Professional Asian Pilots Association (PAPA), to tell his personal story. His involvement with PAPA raised awareness for the organization and the efforts they are working towards while his career at Envoy added authenticity that our workforce and others across the aviation industry tend to identify with.

Results

The campaign was a success. The AAPI video garnered 10K views and reached an audience of more than 26K to raise awareness for AAPI representation in the aviation industry. To bring the message home, Envoy Air was able to capture authentic stories from our team members that talked about their pride for their heritage and their career growth in the airline industry as interconnected ideas. They were warm and engaging, telling stories from everyday people who work for Envoy in customer service, load planning, flight crew and so much more. In addition to the reach of the campaign across social media channels, the AAPI video also brought an additional 8K views to Envoy’s blog.
