VH1 experienced impressive subscriber growth on its YouTube channel in 2018, and for the first time ever reached over 1B minutes watched. With over 1.5M subscribers at the start of 2019, we moved to connect more with the growing audience and adjusted our strategic focus to increasing total watch time.
Following a successful test of footage-based videos on YouTube, we shifted toward creating and uploading more purposeful content inspired by the merging of YouTube trends, topics the VH1 audience cares about, and channel analytics.
Throughout the year, VH1 uploaded over 50 linear series compilations that saw over 130M minutes watched and brought in over 16K new subscribers. Additionally, the channel launched four original web series targeted to the VH1 audience, including the return of Brunch With Tiffany, starring internet icon Tiffany "New York" Pollard. The series follows Pollard chatting over drinks with VH1 fan favorites and gained 15M minutes watched, a season-over-season increase of over 160%.
By year end, VH1 saw an increase across several major KPIs.
-Minutes Watched increased by 36%
-Views grew by 20%
-Average View Duration increased by 14%
-Added an additional 1 million subscribers
