THE CONTENT MARKETING TEAM AT CAPITOL MUSIC GROUP PRODUCED AN IMMERSIVE ART EXHIBIT AND PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE FOR THE LAUNCH OF KATORI WALKER'S EP, STUBBORN, IN STUBBORN: THE EXHIBITION

STUBBORN: THE EXHIBITION, IS A VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF THEMES PRESENT ON KATORI WALKER’S EP, STUBBORN.

RAISED IN PASADENA, CALIFORNIA, KATORI MAKES MUSIC TO FEED THE SOUL. HIS HONEST AND VULNERABLE APPROACH TO HIS WORK HAS BEEN IGNITED BY EMOTIONAL REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES.

THIS PROJECT EXPLORES WHAT IT MEANS TO BE STUBBORN, COVERING TOPICS CLOSE TO KATORI’S LIFE THAT RANGE FROM POLICE BRUTALITY TO ROMANCE TO GANG VIOLENCE TO BECOMING A FATHER.

PHOTOGRAPHED & CURATED BY ARTIST LLOYD PURSALL, THE EXHIBIT UNPACKS THE DEEP EMOTIONAL TRAUMAS, PERSONAL VULNERABILITIES, AND UNDERLYING OPTIMISM FOR THE FUTURE.

ALSO EXPERIENCE KATORI'S STORYTELLING IN REAL LIFE THROUGH HIS ONE OF A KIND LIVE PERFORMANCE OF HIS EP, STUBBORN, FEATURING LIVE ACTORS - DANCERS, CHOIR SINGERS, FAMILY MEMBERS, AND MORE, THOUGHTFULLY VISUALIZING HIS LYRICS ON STAGE.

STUBBORN: THE EXHIBITION EXTENDS BEYOND THIS PHYSICAL EXHIBIT AND PERFORMANCE AND ULTIMATELY LED TO A LARGER BRAND PARTNERSHIP WITH BOSE, IN WHICH IMMERSIVE WEARABLE AUDIO TECHNOLOGY IS UTILIZED TO TELL KATORI'S STORY IN A TRAVELING SHOW.

 

Strategy

Capitol Music Group did not want to throw an album launch party, but rather aimed to fully immerse guests in Katori's commpelling and deeply personal and political storytelling - visually and physically, and digitally.

The Content Marketing team produced a dual art exhibit and performance to celebrate the release of his EP, Stubborn, as outlined above.

The campaign was extended through a substantial brand partnership deal with Bose, in which Bose produced an immersive 3D spacial audio experience for Stubborn: The Exhibition 2.0. 

In this extension of the physical experience, Katori shares his personal story and music in conjuntion with the powerful imagery visualized by Lloyd Pursall. Katori worked closely with the Bose engineers to create a narrative driven audio experience that includes deeply personal storytelling unpacking each of the images from the exhibit followed by his music.

The experience will soon be available for more fans at SXSW.

Results

This seed of an idea began as an EP launch event and developed into an arti exhibit, a narrative driven live performance, and a larger partnership with a leading brand in immersive audio technology and a traveling exhibit to continue to extend the campaign and tell Katori's urgent and important story.
