Wasserman & Canva for Education: Canva Learning Consultant Program

Entered in Educate

Objective

The partnership between Wasserman and Canva, established in January 2022, developed the Canva Learning Consultant Program, an educator-to-educator program to amplify and accelerate the use of Canva for Education across the K-12 audience and support Canva’s mission to empower everyone in the world to design anything and publish anywhere.

The Canva Learning Consultant program was created by educators, for educators and shared the magic of the Canva platform, enhanced classroom learning, and empowered the next generation of creators. Through authentic connection with educators, top-tier workshops, social content creation, and engagement at target education conferences, the program drew more than 1M+ users to a powerful technological tool and empowered students everywhere to ideate, create, and collaborate.

Canva is an online design and visual communication platform with a mission to empower everyone in the world to design anything and publish anywhere. Canva for Education is a version of the Canva platform designed specifically for the K-12 audience. It includes all the features of Canva Pro and makes it easy for teachers and students alike to create, collaborate, and communicate visually in the classroom and beyond.

For the 2023-2024 school year, the Wasserman and Canva partnership set out to accelerate and amplify the use of Canva for Education. The partnership objective was to increase Monthly Active Canva Users (MAU) across K-12 audiences (teachers, students, administrators, and staff) in target school districts. As part of Canva’s commitment to empowerment, Canva for Education is 100% free for K-12 (primary and secondary) teachers, students, and staff.

Strategy

Together, Wasserman and Canva developed the Canva Learning Consultant program, a hands-on strategy rooted in developing key relationships, delivering top-tier training, and organically engaging with the ed-tech community. The program aims to put Canva for Education in as many hands as possible, as quickly as possible, enabling more students to ideate, create, and collaborate, ultimately empowering the next generation with future-ready technological skills, creative prowess, and digital creation and collaboration abilities.

Core to the partnership between Wasserman and Canva and to the Leaning Consultant program is a deep understanding of and expertise within the educator sector.

We knew that increasing the use of Canva for Education at K-12 schools would require buy-in from teachers, whose adoption of the platform in the classroom would naturally extend to students and districts. This allowed us to narrow our target audience focus for the program, and transition to navigating the complex world of education politics, red tape, and district policies.

Brands and businesses cannot just show up to school districts. They need to prove their value (aka not being just another “new” technology) and earn an invitation to access their teacher community. So that’s exactly what we did: Our team of Learning Consultants leveraged their knowledge of school communities and calendars to offer Canva for Education training at realistic times and in engaging formats.

We met teachers where they were and showed them exactly how they could implement Canva for Education into their classrooms the very next day.

The 2023 - 2024 Canva Learning Consultant Program implemented highly engaging Canva for Education training, social media content creation, and relationship building with school districts to penetrate further into school district ecosystems. Specifics of the program execution between August 1, 2023 - July 31, 2024 include:

Results

The 2023-2024 Canva Learning Consultant Program drove an average of 5%+ more Monthly Active Users (MAU) at program schools than non-program schools.

In December 2023 specifically, the program drove an increase of 6.89%, representing one million more Canva for Education users as a direct result of the Learning Consultant program.

This amplification and acceleration of access to Canva for Education empowered more students and educators to design, collaborate, and learn in Canva. Teachers who engaged their students in collaborative learning through Canva unlocked creativity, encouraged digital literacy, and saw students shine in the classroom. Canva empowered students with future-ready skills, such as digital collaboration, creative storytelling through data visualization, group project management, and much more in a safe and collaborative space.

The impact of the 2023 program led to the continuation of the Canva Learning Consultant program in 2024.
