Objective

The NFL schedule release presents a unique opportunity where the content teams take center stage. It’s the first real chance to introduce the new season, set the tone, build excitement and officially start the countdown to football. Through gamification, nostalgia, comedy, pop culture and creative risk-taking, teams produce these videos to create a moment that reaches beyond the core sports fans and leaves a lasting memory across the digital world.

The Chargers have built a strong reputation on social media, particularly around schedule release content. Year after year, we’ve raised the bar with viral, culture-driven executions. After revolutionizing the space with back-to-back Anime schedule releases and then breaking the internet with our Sims release video in 2024, we knew the 2025 release had to rise to the occasion.

Minecraft Schedule Release was born, and after dozens of brainstorming sessions and endless hours of building, we knew we had something special. We were going to fully immerse fans inside the game itself and tell our schedule story in a way that felt fun, unexpected and rooted in passion. We set out to create a video that rewarded curiosity and encouraged sharing, living long after the schedule dropped.

Strategy

From the start, we knew this project had to feel authentic to two passionate audiences: NFL fans and the Minecraft community. To do that, we committed to building the entire experience natively inside Minecraft, no shortcuts, no surface-level references. We partnered directly with Minecraft to rent a dedicated server, allowing our team to create a fully custom world and collaborate in real time throughout the build.

We used the game’s existing tools where possible, but much of the world required custom development. Our team created original scenes, objects, textures, skins, and items to ensure that every detail aligned with both the Chargers' tone and voice and the world of Minecraft. By the end of the build, our server map spanned more than 48 million square blocks, with each scene existing in its own dedicated location within the world.

To keep the process efficient at that scale, we implemented a warp command mod, enabling the team to teleport between scenes instantly. This allowed us to work on multiple environments simultaneously and move seamlessly from one setup to the next during both building and filming. Easter eggs are an essential part of schedule release culture, and we included more than ever before,  carefully layering, sometimes in the smallest details, throughout each scene. Many of these were created as custom images designed in Photoshop, then uploaded and placed in-game using the sign paintings mod.

Once the world was complete, we turned our focus to bringing it to life on screen. We used the Flashback mod to capture, animate, and record every shot with full creative control. This tool allowed us to choreograph camera movements, transitions, and timing with precision—turning a static world into a cinematic viewing experience.

Filming took place across more than 30 sessions, with each team member playing a character to create the scenes we designed. Throughout the build and production process, the team met three to five times per week to brainstorm scene details, refine jokes, and ideate on easter eggs. We worked together until the final product felt dense, intentional, rewarding to repeat watchers, and entertaining for the communities it was built for.

Results

Our goal was to create a schedule release video that truly stood out across the league while authentically connecting with both NFL fans and the gaming community. The response showed the approach worked.

Within one week of the 2025 NFL Schedule Release, the Chargers emerged as the clear leader across all teams in both total views and total interactions on social media. The video generated 25.2 million views, three times more than the next highest team, and drove 512,000 total interactions, more than double the second-place finisher. Compared to our 2024 Sims-themed schedule release, the Minecraft video also delivered a 25% increase in engagements within the first 24 hours, reinforcing strong year-over-year growth in both performance and fan interest.

On YouTube, the video reached #2 on Gaming Trending and #8 on General Trending within 24 hours of posting. On the night of the schedule release, it also became the #2 trending topic on X, reflecting real-time conversation and widespread fan engagement.

The recognition and momentum extended beyond social platforms. The Chargers’ schedule release video was ranked #1 by USA Today, Sports Illustrated, SB Nation, Bleacher Nation, and Yahoo Sports in articles evaluating schedule release videos across the league.

The Minecraft schedule release video didn’t just capture attention; it drove meaningful engagement at scale and reinforced the Chargers as a leader in creative, culture-driven storytelling.
