Doom Scrolling – The Conjuring Franchise

Entered in Vertical Video

Objective

Our objective was to create a high-impact video ad celebrating the legacy of The Conjuring franchise while reigniting excitement for its newest chapter, The Conjuring: Last Rites. Designed specifically for vertical platforms, the ad embraced the viewing behaviors of social audiences rather than retrofitting a traditional horizontal spot. Inspired by the slow-scroll opening credits that are iconic to the franchise, we reimagined that motif into a dynamic upward scroll that feels native to social feeds. This movement not only paid homage to the tone of the films, but also seamlessly integrated the ad into the user experience. The edit was engineered to grab and hold attention through fast-paced, tension-building sound design, delivering sharp glimpses of the franchise’s most haunting moments. The result is a scroll-stopping, franchise-spanning creative that honors the past while propelling audiences toward the final chapter.

Strategy

One of our greatest challenges was to sum up the entire franchise within a 15-second vertical ad while still positioning The Conjuring: Last Rites as the must-see event. With such limited runtime, we knew we couldn’t simply stack clips back to back. We needed a unifying creative device that would feel cohesive, intentional, and emotionally powerful.
Our solution was to focus on the one signature element that resonates across every installment: the exorcism. By zeroing in on this recurring, high-stakes moment, we were able to thread together defining scenes from each film under a single thematic through line. This created a sense of continuity and escalation rather than fragmentation, allowing the edit to feel purposeful despite the length.
To further elevate the newest chapter, we used the exorcism scene from The Conjuring: Last Rites to bookend the ad. This framing device ensured the latest installment felt like the culmination of everything that came before while still giving meaningful screen time to the broader franchise. The result is a tightly executed, story-driven piece that not only spotlights the new film but also entices audiences to revisit the entire series.

Results

This video alone resulted in 22,213 incremental signups for the platform, achieving our goal of enticing users to binge the entire franchise on HBO Max.
