Objectives

Hulu Original adult animated sitcom “Solar Opposites” follows four aliens who are stranded in middle America after crash-landing in suburbia. They often find themselves at odds wondering if Earth is an awful or awesome place.

The Shlorpian family of four, and their 'pet', Pupa, return for the fourth season of the sci-fi comedy series, continuing the uproariously irreverent comedy the show has quickly become known for. 

Ahead of “Solar Opposites” Season 4 premiere date, Hulu Originals’s objective was to create social content that would create excitement among the show’s core fanbase while also appealing to potential new viewers. 

 

Strategy and Execution

Hulu Originals created a social video for Instagram that appeared to “break” users' feeds. The video spotlights Pupa, the Shlorpian pet destined to end humanity and transform Earth into an alien hellscape. As the teenage Pupa goes out of control, the walls of Instagram’s interface appear to break down. 

 Pupa's out-of-the-box, relatable, and overly dramatic antics edited into a bite-sized, hilarious montage pulls viewers in, generating interest in the character, and the show as a whole.

 

Results

Hulu Originals literally “broke” the feeds of Instagram users and created a buzz around Season 3 of “Solar Opposites” by using clever animation and editing techniques to highlight the comedy series 'almost offensive, still hilarious' brand of humor.

The Pupa Feedbreaker resulted in 27.8K views. It was the most viewed Instagram video since the “Now Streaming” video posted on premiere day.
