The Investopedia Express with Caleb Silver

Finalist in Podcast

Objectives

Investopedia’s new podcast, The Investopedia Express, launched in September 2020 with Editor-in-Chief, Caleb Silver as its host. Investopedia’s first foray into audio journalism, the podcast serves as an extension of its 22-year old history of educating and empowering millions of investors around the world. The goal was to create a short, digestible and educational investing podcast that empowers individual investors to get smarter about finance topics, trends, and market dynamics that influence their financial lives and portfolios.

On air, Caleb digs into the most important stores in investing and global economics, sharing his decades-worth of industry knowledge with everyday listeners. As an expert, Caleb utilizes his skills to break down the news that surrounds the current market to create an accessible and inviting listen around a frequently intimidating topic. He interviews some of the biggest names in business and arms consumers with information that investors need to start each week with money headed into their pockets.

Strategy and Execution

Hosted by Investopedia Editor-in-Chief, Caleb Silver, The Investopedia Express launched in September 2020 during a global pandemic with severe economic implications. The Investopedia team decided a podcast offered the opportunity to reach consumers in a new, easily consumable format, tapping into the gap in the market between excellent business podcasts and the rising number of podcast listeners. The Investopedia Express prepares and educates consumers about the current state of the stock market which changes on a dime, while preparing and guiding listeners to take informed action around money and finance management.

The initial goal of The Investopedia Express was to fill a market gap in the podcast landscape. While financial news programs and long-form interview series saturate podcast offerings, Investopedia identified a much needed new category: short-form bitesize business content. The Express has expertly weaved interviews, news analysis, and education into a single weekly digest.

The 20-25 minute weekly episodes are packed with segments dedicated to the latest markets news, investing terms of the week, and special guests explaining the most important developments in global markets and how they impact retail investors. Some of the most recent notable guests include Ali Velshi, Economic Correspondent for NBC News, Kevin O’Leary, investor on the television show Shark Tank ,  Bethany McLean, a contributing editor for Vanity Fair, and more.

Results

With 22 years of hard-work, the Investopedia team has created a trusted consumer base of over 20 million monthly readers that turn to and rely on Investopedia for business and financial information and advice. The Investopedia Express was a logical next step for the team, creating a new channel to reach consumers for timely market information and analysis from a source that listeners already trust, reinvented and distributed in a new medium.

Since launching on Sept. 8th, 2020, The Investopedia Express podcast has been downloaded over 90k times across 99 countries.
