Spectrum Designs is a custom apparel and promotional products company with a mission to create meaningful career opportunities for autistic adults—a group facing an 85% unemployment rate.
"We Are Spectrum Designs" is a vibrant social media video that celebrates our team and their unique personalities. At Spectrum, we hire across the spectrum—some employees work completely independently, while others thrive with one-on-one support. This diversity is beautifully reflected in the video, where each person delivers their lines in their own authentic way.
Our goal was to inform more people of our organization and, most importantly, showcase the skills that are often overlooked in the neurodiverse community.
The video was produced by Kelli Fisher, our Social Media Manager, who is autistic herself. Her perspective allows her to authentically capture our team’s spirit and the many talents they bring to the table.
Through heartfelt moments and dynamic storytelling, "We Are Spectrum Designs" showcases multiple team members, each sharing their personal connection to our mission—and the impact we make together.
From the start, we knew the video had to feel personal. Our Social Media Manager Kelli Fisher—who is autistic herself—took the lead in concept development, scripting, and production. Her unique perspective allowed her to approach the project with deep understanding and empathy, ensuring that every participant was represented authentically. The concept was simple yet powerful: capture short, dynamic clips of our team members delivering lines in their own way. This would reflect the spectrum of personalities, communication styles, and support needs within our organization.
Execution:
Filming took place over multiple days to accommodate work schedules and sensory needs. Some participants were filmed in quieter settings to reduce distractions, while others thrived in areas full of energy and laughter. We encouraged everyone to deliver their lines in whatever style felt comfortable—whether that meant reading from a card, ad-libbing, or using gestures instead of words.
Kelli’s production approach emphasized flexibility and respect for individual comfort levels. She used a mix of steady shots, close-ups, and candid behind-the-scenes moments to give the final edit texture and authenticity. Editing was intentionally fast-paced to keep social media audiences engaged, while captions and graphic overlays ensured accessibility and clarity.
The video became a massive success, going viral with over 30 million views and catapulting our following by more than 1,200%. It caught the attention of celebrities including Jennifer Garner, Meghan Trainor, SZA, and many others, bringing unprecedented visibility to our mission.
With this surge in attention, our content reached audiences across the globe, building a loyal and engaged community that continues to follow, share, and champion our work. This momentum directly contributed to our record-breaking $7.5 million in sales last year — revenue that allowed us to hire more employees and expand opportunities for neurodiverse adults.
The impact went far beyond sales. The viral video led to our feature on The Kelly Clarkson Show, introducing our team to millions nationwide and fueling even greater awareness.
Most importantly, the video sparked a movement. We received countless messages from business owners and community leaders seeking advice on how they, too, could hire neurodiverse adults. This ripple effect has the power to create meaningful, lasting change — helping more individuals across the country gain employment, independence, and dignity.
What started as a single piece of content became a catalyst for growth, awareness, and inclusion on a scale we could have only dreamed of.
