TJC Project (Targeting Journalists is a Crime) is built on one conviction: journalism is not a crime, but silencing journalists is. Our work begins with the belief that every attack on a journalist is an attack on truth, justice, and the public’s right to know. TJC exists to expose the unprecedented rise in crimes against journalists, these crimes threaten our human & civil rights and blind the world to the injustices and corruptions that are happening all around the planet.
TJC Project honors those who have been lost and demands accountability from those who commit them. It is both a memorial and a movement preserving the memory of fallen journalists while mobilizing action to confront impunity.
Through stories, research, and live updates, the project makes visible the true scale of violence against the press. The Tribute Wall ensures that journalists killed in the line of duty are not forgotten, while our case files and reports provide evidence that strengthens calls for justice.
TJC also amplifies advocacy, sounding the alarm through press alerts, newsletters, and campaigns that keep global attention fixed on the dangers faced by media workers. By linking remembrance to action, it transforms grief into pressure for change, urging governments, institutions, and international bodies to protect journalists and uphold international law.
At its core, the project’s goal is simple yet urgent: to safeguard those who bear witness, and to ensure that truth can survive even in the face of violence. Without protecting journalists, there can be no accountability, no justice, and no freedom.
TJC Project (Targeting Journalists is a Crime) was born from urgency. There is no website that exists in today’s time that dedicates to only vocalizing about press freedom and posting the same content that we post. The TJC Project is unique because it is the only platform that combines memorial, documentation, and advocacy in one place. Unlike other sites, it not only honors fallen journalists through the Tribute Wall but also documents attacks with Case Files, provides analysis through Research, and mobilizes action through News, Events, and the TJC Bulletin. It transforms remembrance into a movement, ensuring that crimes against journalists cannot be ignored.
Around the world, and especially in Gaza, journalists were being killed in unprecedented numbers. Too often their deaths were reduced to statistics or ignored entirely. We set out to create a platform that would preserve their memory, document the crimes committed against them, and demand accountability from those responsible.
Our plan of action combined documentation with mobilization. We began by building a digital space that functions as both archive and advocacy tool. The Tribute Wall was created to honor journalists killed in the line of duty, ensuring their stories are remembered. The News section delivers timely updates and analysis on threats to journalists worldwide, keeping audiences informed and engaged. The Case Files section provides detailed accounts of individual attacks, combining evidence, context, and investigative reporting to strengthen the fight for justice. Alongside these features, timelines and research posts make the broader pattern of violence impossible to ignore.
Execution was not without challenges. A major obstacle was presenting devastating subject matter in a way that engaged rather than overwhelmed audiences, while making sure that they are posted in real-time and most current data. We overcame this by combining clean, bold designs with storytelling that pairs hard data with deeply human narratives. Another challenge was maintaining credibility in a fast-moving landscape where misinformation thrives. To address this, we grounded every entry in verified sources and aligned our work with press freedom organizations to ensure accuracy. Another challenge was humanizing the content for our viewers and making sure that they resonate with the stories and tributes that we post about journalists emotionally.
What makes TJC unique is that it is both a memorial and a movement. It not only remembers those we have lost but also transforms grief into advocacy. By linking remembrance with action, the project creates sustained pressure on governments, institutions, and international bodies to protect journalists and uphold international law.
In essence, TJC is a living commitment: that silencing a journalist will never silence the truth.
TJC Project (Targeting Journalists is a Crime) is set out with two main objectives: to make the global scale of violence against journalists impossible to ignore and to transform remembrance into action. These goals have been achieved through the creation of a platform that is both a memorial and an advocacy tool.
The Tribute Wall has ensured that journalists are remembered by name and story rather than reduced to numbers. The News section has kept the issue in public view with consistent coverage of press freedom violations. The Case Files have transformed isolated incidents into documented records that can inform advocacy and legal work. The Research section has added depth and analysis, providing context that strengthens the call for accountability. Through the Events section, TJC has created opportunities for dialogue, commemoration, and collective action. The TJC Bulletin has expanded its reach by delivering updates and insights directly to supporters, building a community committed to defending journalists.
The success of these efforts is evident in the engagement they have generated. Families, colleagues, rights organizations, and ordinary citizens now have a space that combines remembrance, information, and advocacy. Human rights groups and media networks have cited and shared the project, showing its value as both a resource and a rallying point.
We consider the project a success because it has honored the fallen, educated the public, and mobilized global awareness. TJC proves that remembrance can be a catalyst for justice and that silencing journalists will never silence the truth.
