Brandon Stanton is photographer and creator of the immensely popular Humans of New York Facebook page and subsequent bestselling book, which captures portraits of New Yorkers with snippets of their stories. The images and stories are frequently liked and shared by Facebook users—and politicians like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama—spawning a bestselling book. In 2015, Brandon expanded outside of New York, flying to the Middle East in collaboration with the UN and then to Pakistan and Iran to share stories and raise money for the Bonded Labour Liberation Front (he raised $2 million). He also worked to raise money for education stateside, crowdfunding more than $1 million for a school in Brooklyn.
