The Voice Save is the first and most impactful Twitter-based vote on TV. Indeed, measured by volume, the Voice Save is the most successful Social TV integration of all time.
Here's how it worked: Each week, when the bottom three contestants were announced, the audience could choose a contestant to save from elimination by tweeting their vote using the hashtag #VoiceSave. The payoff was immediate, with the tallies announced live on-air.
Previous Twitter "votes" allowed users to log-in via social, or vote via Direct Message. But Voice Save allowed the audience to vote using Twitter the way they actually use Twitter: by tweeting their vote. As a Twitter executive told USA Today, "The Voice's Instant Save will be the first time Twitter will be used for an actual voting decision during a show."
The results were massive: According to Nielsen Social, due to the Voice Save, the show holds 8 of the Top 10 spots in 2014 when ranking episodes from broadcast networks by total tweets. In fact, The Voice Save owns the record for the most tweeted-about TV series episode ever (Nielsen Social).
