Whatnot is the largest livestream shopping platform in the U.S. Their business is based on live-streamed auctions, kind of like a modern QVC. But they needed to find a way to scale their marketplace beyond their owned channels. After all, there is a massive world of collectors and buyers around the web, and Whatnot would only get so far by selling exclusively to the existing Whatnot.com audience.
They needed a partner to help them scale their live auction business across social media, and when it comes to finding audiences on social, nobody does it better than Loop.
Our first step was to develop formats that would engage users, reach audiences, sell product, and get a helpful algorithmic boost from social platforms.
Our solution was Whatnot! The Game Show.
We were able to scale the core of Whatnot’s business – a collectible marketplace – into a fun, entertaining live game show that’s one part auction, one part competition, and one part Antiques Roadshow for a modern, social-first audience.
We built atop the core auction format with a library of innovative games and advanced product features like live share meters, large-scale raids, and trivia elements—all seamlessly integrated into the experience.
The results were staggering. The show outperformed our expectations, and redefined Whatnot’s potential with each episode re-breaking the the record for “most shared live show” on the platform. With 92.5k shares, our show beat all of Whatnot’s previous livestream auctions, including shows with Patrick Malholmes, Post Malone and Logan Paul.
Our test episode was so successful that Whatnot immediately extended the engagement to a six-episode series, and set a game-changing precedent for live streaming commerce.
