The Honda Civic—America’s 6-time-running best-selling car, and one of the most popular vehicles ever in the U.S. was turning 50. Our challenge was to create a digital campaign that celebrated something that has been more than just a car, but has played an integral role in people’s lives and even culture for more than half a century.
What followed was Civic 50th Anniversary Ride Through History, a 5-part animated series and multi-faceted campaign that captured the heart and essence of the Civic across the span of 50 years...honoring the incredible places it's been, the things it's done, and the memories it's made.
First, we rallied one of the car industry’s biggest cult fanbases to share their favorite Civics–igniting an international conversation as we gave fans a chance to see their very own car featured in Civic’s 50th anniversary celebration.
In the coming weeks, the 50th came to life during a multi-week celebration that gave each decade a chance to shine; paying homage to the times, Civic history, and even the car’s role in culture.
As the videos were released, fans came clamoring for more, as UGC photos continued pouring in while fans shared their favorite Civic memories and stories, and sparked passionate debates as to why their favorite Civic model was “the best Civic ever”
Along with the videos, we dropped custom wallpapers and posters directly from the videos that allowed fans to eternalize the celebration and bring home a piece of history—all culminating with a complete long-form extended cut that allowed fans to take the complete ride through history, all the way from 1972 to modern day.
As expected, die-hard Civic fans joined us from around the world to show their unwavering Civic love and support, posting more than 800 UGC submissions while tallying over 4MM views, 20.5MM impressions and increasing engagement on Honda social by over 55%.
