Safiya Nygaard is the “first of her name, mother of cats, queen of the sandals.” Apparently a big Game of Thrones fan, Safiya posts fashion and beauty videos with a wide range of advice on looks that vary from vintage to futuristic, often testing products recommended by ads on social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, or tech inventions like a 3D-printed skincare mask. In under a year, Safiya gained over 3.5M subscribers, becoming one of the top 1000 YouTubers despite a mere 89 uploads. Almost all of her videos in 2017 received 1M+ views, including her most popular, entitled, “Why I Left BuzzFeed,” explaining how she quit a job with the media company in January 2017 to launch her own YouTube channel. It looks like she made the right decision.
