A self-proclaimed “minimalist obsessed with ornament,” graphic designer Nick Misani shows his love of historical letterforms in his retro, art deco-inspired typography. His painstakingly drawn, digital illustrations of mosaic tile work—a series titled “Fauxsaics”—demand a closer look, as the pieces seem to be made from actual tiles at first glance. With modern updates of font styles from earlier eras setting his work apart, Nick won the honor of inclusion in the prestigious Communication Arts Typography Annual in 2017 and was just awarded an International Design Award by HOW Magazine. While the look of his work may show Nick’s old soul, his over 40K Instagram fans know he is truly an artist of today’s moment.
