You don’t have to “grow up” to mature as an artist, especially if you become an overnight sensation—like Hanksy did with one hilarious and brilliant Banksy spoof in 2011. In the years since, Hanksy put his punny paintbrush on the pulse of pop culture (including his viral ‘Dump Trump’ mural), anonymously building a following of 114K+ Instagram followers and 55K+ Facebook likes. In November of 2017, he dropped the anonymity and the puns, coming forward as artist Adam Lucas for the inaugural gallery show under his real name, “Some Grow Up, Others Grow Down” at 151 Canal Street. But his irreverence remains, with social fans seeing posts that prove he is “always & 4ever down to clown.”
