The CW’s popular Jane the Virgin adapted and updated a Venezuelan telenovela for American television. While the plotline is biblically ancient, the writers keep up with the times by weaving funny pop culture references and social media hashtags into the storyline. We follow Jane as she navigates life as a young mother, after an “immaculate conception” with her longtime crush Rafael. Gina Rodriguez, who plays Jane, won a Best Actress Golden Globe after only one season on the air. This was a big win for a Latina actress, as they aren’t always given leading roles. With a 3rd season that premiered in October 2016, we happily get more fun with the [spoiler alert!] newly-married Jane the (no longer a) Virgin.
