Objectives

When Wheel of Fortune decided to retire several Wheel wedges for their 32nd season, we recognized an opportunity to connect with and engage our fan base in a new way. We created the #WinTheWedge Contest in which fans could win the actual $350 Wedge from the Wheel signed by Pat and Vanna, along with $350 cash. We asked fans to tell us, in a creative and original way, why they would give the $350 Wedge the best home.

Our objectives were to increase Facebook engagement, boost season premiere viewership, encourage creative UGC, and reward and excite our fans.

The contest received over 2,000 entries and helped increase Facebook comments by 28% (month over month). Our winner created an amazing video as his pitch for the Wedge in which he truly shows his love of Wheel of Fortune and superfan-dom. The winning video received over 28,000 views, and the winner also created a follow-up video after he received his prizes, which received nearly 40,000 views.

Strategy and Execution

Wheel of Fortune's #WinTheWedge contest should win because it was a creative way to bring a brand associated with an older audience into the social space and engage a younger audience. The prospect of winning a piece of Wheel of Fortune history engaged both our super fans, and brought in new fans to our Facebook page. Thousands of fans took the time to craft witty responses, showing their investment and willingness to engage with the story and brand.

We achieved all of our objectives- increase Facebook engagement, boost season premiere viewership, encourage creative UGC, and reward and excite our fans.
