Since launch, Horizon Worlds has become so many different things for visitors and creators from across the metaverse.
From worldbuilding and creating new mediums for storytelling to groups centered around culture, meditation, mindfulness, and self care, people have truly embraced the platform in unconventional ways to give it a life and importance that goes beyond being a game.
And for some LGBTQ+ individuals, specifically in the trans community, it’s become much more than that. It’s a place where they can safely explore identity and find the person they were ment to be, on and off the platform.
Unless it’s something you’re personally living through, it’s impossible to understand the difficulties members of the trans community face when discovering who they really are and making that transition. There are some who do this successfully and become the person they’ve always been. And then there are those who struggle their entire lives due to a lack of encouragement, support, or community out in the world.
Within the Horizon Worlds creator community, we've found there’s a growing number of people in transition who have been able to find support, understanding and safe spaces within the VR platform that have not been extended to them in their daily lives.
This is the story we want to tell. About being able to become your true self when you have the opportunity to find new family and recreate yourself with the identity of who you want to be.
As part of Meta's companywide show of support for the LGBTQ+ community during Pride 2022, this storytelling piece posted organically with great community reception to the LGBTQ@ and Diversity@, and Meta Newsroom company Facebook pages. Social versions were also posted across the Horizon Worlds Facebook, Instagram and Twitter channels.
