Everyone Is Gay works to improve the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning/Queer (LGBTQ) youth using a three-pronged approach: providing honest advice to these youth while keeping them laughing; talking to students across the country in an effort to create caring, compassionate school environments; and working with parents of LGBTQ kids to help foster an ongoing dialogue and deeper understanding. Everyone Is Gay began as a Tumblr presence that offered LGBTQ youth a place to ask advice, laugh, and find community. After receiving thousands of questions, that Tumblr grew into a proper website that also consisted of a Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube presence. Founders Kristin Russo & Dannielle Owens-Reid also maintain a personal social media presence, which allows readers to experience much of their day-to-day lives. This combination has proved to be an incredible and ground-breaking tool for enabling a safe, trusting space in which to talk about LGBTQ issues. We, quite literally, would not exist without social media.
