Summer Scamper benefiting Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford is a 5k, 10k, and kids' fun run held each year in June. It is our hospital's largest community fundraiser of the year and is a chance for physicians, staff, researchers, patient families, and supporters to join together in celebration of the brave kids in our community. This year, we wanted to create a video to promote Summer Scamper and to show our supporters the impact their fundraising makes for our patients and their families.
We decided to feature Hana, a heart patient. She has grown up in our hospital and their family uses Summer Scamper to celebrate her health. But Hana's family also uses Scamper to celebrate someone else very dear to them: Leo, Hana's heart donor. We were honored to document the moment that Leo's family traveled from Denver, CO to visit our hospital and meet Hana and her family for the first time. They were able to hear their son's beating heart once again, and now both families are using Summer Scamper to help more kids in our care.
We pre-interviewed both mothers of Leo and Hana on the phone to prepare the storyboard. We asked Leo's family to arrive at hospital first, and we interviewed them to learn about Leo, what kind of kid he was, and more about their heart-wrenching story. They shared their excitement to meet Hana and her family, and how they first learned about Summer Scamper and were able to participate from their home in Denver, Colorado. Then, we took Leo's family downstairs to the hospital lobby to meet Hana for the first time.
The video was shared on Facebook, instagram, and in emails to our Summer Scamper participants and to our main supporter list.
The video received over 75,000 views on our various channels. Summer Scamper had it's best year yet with over 4,000 participants. We raised a total of $579,689, surpassing our fundraising goal of $550,000.
