In this SoulPancake origingal series, we set out to explore the truths, falsehoods, and myths surrounding particular groups of people. In this episode, we wanted to examine the differences between the respresentation of incarcerated women on television and in film versus what these women saw and believed about themselves in order to discover what is true, what is false, and what do incarcerated women wish people knew about them.
To create this series, SoulPancake traveled to women's correctional facility to speak directly to incarcerated women about ther experiences vs the stereotypical portrayal. We created a hero poece of contented supported by ancillary social content, and partnered with social justice organizations to help amplify the content.
The "Incarcerated Women..." video received over 60k engagements and over 1.9 million views on YouTube. The video sparked a corresponding "Truth or Myth" series and raised money for criminal justice reform.
