Objectives

Serial entrepreneur and seasoned marketing executive, Tina Hedges, founded LOLI BEAUTY with a vision to stir up the beauty industry to make a conscious change. The $532 billion global beauty industry is based on selling personal care products that are diluted with 80-95% water, polluted with chemicals and over-packaged in plastic. Did you know 129 billion units of packaging are wasted by the cosmetic industry every year? By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. In addition, by 2025, 5 billion people will be affected by water shortage. Creating a water-free product helps address environmental issues important to water conservation. Water-based products require toxic chemicals as preservatives. On average, a woman uses 12 beauty products daily and is exposed to hundreds of chemicals, none of which are required for safety testing. LOLI's mission is to #stirupbeauty to make a conscious change by offering safe, ethical and effective personal care products that are better for the consumer and for the planet.

Strategy and Execution

The solution? Hedges launched LOLI (which stands for Living Organic Loving Ingredients) as the world's first zero waste organic beauty brand based on pure + potent superfoods. The company is a direct to consumer brand that takes a sustainable, clean food-based approach to sourcing, formulating and packaging personal care products. From up-cycling fresh, minimally processed, organic food-based ingredients to its 100% waterless formulas and certified compostable, reusable packaging, LOLI is on a mission to #stirupbeauty. LOLI Beauty is also independently, and scientifically certified MADE SAFE and is the first and only beauty company to be a member of MADE IN A FREE WORLD, a tech platform to help assess the risk of people trafficking in the supply chain.

Results

LOLI Beauty launched March 2018 with superfood, organic customizable products that are pure + potent, never diluted with water or polluted with toxins. LOLI's products are packaged in food grade, reusable glass containers with removable, certified compostable labels. An industry first, the company also eliminated secondary cartons by partnering with three packaging vendors to create a unique 100% certified, food grade compostable bag that helps eliminate additional shipping materials. For zero waste sourcing, LOLI works with organic farmers to up-cycle ingredients from food supply - like the rare Ente plum kernel from France in LOLI's Plum Elixir. For its efforts, LOLI Beauty has been recognized by Fast Company for its 2018 Innovator Award in Fashion & Beauty.
