Before saying their "I dos," brides heavily rely on sites like Pinterest, Facebook and other online wedding tools for inspiration. These accessible and inexpensive resources have become a bride's virtual wedding planner, and have dramatically changed how each bride "visualizes" her big day in BIG ways. When considering platforms for the contest, extensive research was conducted and various social media studies were reviewed. Upon realizing that 70% of brides were already pinning on Pinterest before getting engaged, it set the perfect stage for a contest to plan their dream wedding. The main objective for the "Dream Beach Wedding Contest," a contest that was hosted on Pinterest, was to develop awareness for Palace Resorts wedding, by strengthening the brand's presence on Pinterest, and generate leads and brand awareness.
We asked brides-to-be to create a Pinterest board filled with items from their dream wedding. Every week, brides were asked to update their board with their favorite linens, colors and styles. At the end of the contest, one bride was selected to have their Pinterest board come to life at Moon Palace Cancun.
How it worked:
•Participants created a Pinterest board with hashtag #DreamBeachWedding
•Brides shared contact and other pertinent information on an entry landing page
•Every week participants added new pins on their Pinterest board based on a theme or topic we designated, some of the topics were related to specific Palace Resorts products in an effort to generate interest and awareness
At the end of the contest, one bride was chosen to make her Pinterest pins come to life with a complimentary wedding at Moon Palace Cancun.
The contest was a great success, with 1,029 contest followers, 189 boards created, and a total of 180 new brides in our database. The contest generated $450,000 in potential business opportunities.
