Objectives

For many, the right to vote and partake in government is seen as a human right. No matter where you come from, elections are held as some of the most pivotal and important moments for not only where you live but the decision can have international ramifications.

Our goal with EIGHTEEN was to create a digital series that travels the world to explore what it is like for a young person to vote for the first time. Each episode takes a look at each country, from Burma to Guatemala, and the political history that shaped the nation our subject lives in today.

Our aim was to inspire our audience regarding the voting process by seeing what its like to be an eighteen year old in other countries, and to see their struggles, and what their hopes are for the future.

We have 2 more episodes pending release focused on the US Election.

Strategy and Execution

By traveling to 5 countries (Burma, Uganda, Peru, Guatemala, the United States), our strategy for this series was to take a global looks at youth and the responsibilities of voting for the first time, no matter where you cast your ballot. Each subject represents an average eighteen year old in that country and allows the audience to take a glimpse into life in that country today.

Our community outreach involved contacting organizations and influencers to assist in amplifying each video's reach so as to share these uplifting stories and inspire people outside of Fusion's immediate audience base.

Lastly, in order to tap into distribution outlets beyond digital video, episodes were featured on FUSION TV's linear show AMERICA with Jorge Ramos.

Results

The series has exceeded our objectives and goals. We are proud to have been able to successfully capture inspiring stories of youth getting involved in the voting process, providing our audience with insight on what elections are like both inside and outside the US during this pivotal year. Additionally, we have been able to reach significant viewers, the series has garnered nearly 1 million views across FUSION's Facebook and YouTube players and has had the opportunity to be broadcasted on TV with the potential of reaching +40M households.
