Bring compelling cryptocurrency stories to life by driving awareness of builders thinking outside the box to bring meaningful, large-scale change. We wanted to highlight a story that paves the path for those who dare to build by making a major impact in the NFT space. Making the crypto economy accessible by helping people to understand the practical ways the crypto and blockchain technologies are changing and advancing ways of life was the main mission.
The crypto community is changing the art world. NFTs have seen a rapid, meteoric rise since their introduction, grabbing headlines and imaginations and leading to unprecedented opportunities for many digital artists and art collectors. Much of the reason NFTs have exploded in popularity is because they've transformed the idea of art ownership, for both collectors and artists. Take Emily Yang, also known as PplPleasr, for example. Yang is a multidisciplinary artist, with a focus on 3D animation.
Almost immediately she started making waves on Twitter and Instagram by creating animation ads for leading decentralized finance, or DeFi, platforms. The promotional video she made for the DeFi ecosystem, Uniswap has since become iconic. It was this animation that became PplPleasr’s first major NFT sale.
The piece sold for 310 ETH, or $525,000. PplPleasr ended up donating all the money from that sale to the Stand With Asians movement following the Atlanta Spa shootings on March 16, 2021 to combat the hate crimes and discrimination against the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. This proved to be a key moment in the future of Emily’s NFT art career.
The future of NFTs is just beginning as the community rapidly grows. NFTs are transforming the art world as we know it and unlocking the power of crypto for artists, collectors, everyone.
