In creating this video for The Daily Show social handles, our aim was to show how closely the language of infamous Ku Klux Klan leaders like David Duke mirrors that of the modern Republican party.
We did what The Daily Show does best: put together a tightly edited string of video clips showing how the language used by the KKK almost exactly mirrors the rhetoric used by current conservative leaders like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Tucker Carlson. This video required hours of painstaking research into archival to create a final product that's searing, comprehensive, and devastating.
The video drove 17M views, 1.5M engagements, and more than 25M impressions across YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok, and received press pickup from publishers including Newsweek, Huffington Post, and more.
