Bridging the Gap on Disney+ YouTube Channel

Entered in Multicultural Community Engagement

Objectives

Each week Disney+ filmmakers, animators, creatives, and talent join our host to have an open and honest conversation about their lives, careers, and hopes for the future. Taking inspiration from Disney+ movies and series, each episode will follow a theme that bridges the gap across all cultures, ethnicities, genders, religions, and sexual orientations.

Strategy and Execution

In the Disney+ YouTube channel series, "Bridging the Gap'', Disney+ filmmakers, animators, creatives, and talent were brought together to have an open and honest conversation about their lives, careers and hopes for the future. Prioritizing heritage observances and cultural moments throughout the year, each episode followed a theme that aimed to bridge the gap across cultures, ethnicities, genders, religions, and sexual orientations. The biggest challenge throughout producing Bridging the Gap was gathering talent in one place for our shoot date, especially with Covid-19 protocols and guidelines still in place and talent all having varying commitments and schedules to work around. Throughout the Pandemic we pivoted to Zoom capture for many of our series, but for Bridging the Gap we believed it was necessary to bring talent together in one space to foster a really meaningful and authentic conversation.

Results

The result was a really meaningful conversation to both audiences and the talent involved. We were very proud to have navigated topics and conversations that we felt were needed and important in an authentic way, and with the support of leadership at The Walt Disney Company behind us.
