For the first time in nearly a decade, Beavis and Butt-Head returned with a brand new movie. To celebrate the launch of Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, we wanted to highlight the humor of the film, juxtaposed with the seriousness of a real life astronaut reacting to the movie and giving his opinions on the dumbest science fiction movie ever made. We found former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino who was able to create interesting and funny commentary about the film.
When we originally pitched this concept, we knew that we needed a specific personality for it to work – Mike was the perfect match for this concept. He was extremely charismatic, had a great sense of humor, and he also told incredible stories about being in space. Mike took on the popular “watch and react” format, by giving his commentary on Beavis and Butt-Head’s adventures in space camp, during launch, and in space itself. Mike gave hilarious commentary about Beavis and Butt-Head and the science and space elements portrayed in the film which created a fun and compelling piece to help us launch our social campaign for Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe.
We posted the video across show social pages as well as Paramount+ social accounts shortly after the premiere of the movie to push additional streams for the movie, and Mike posted on his social accounts as well. Fans loved the concept, with several people declaring Mike Massimino their new favorite astronaut based on their mutual love for Beavis and Butt-Head. We consider this a huge success because we were able to create a fun and informative new piece by finding the right talent to help us execute this video.
