Our goal was to highlight the creator of #28daysofBlackCosplay and uplift black cosplayers while raising awareness around online bullying, racism, and mental health in the black community. This piece not only shines a spotlight on our fans but encourages them to continue pursuing their passions despite the obstacles they might face.
For Black History Month, we wanted our projects to focus on the importance of mental health in the black community. It was essential for us to not only show our support towards the black community but give them a platform to share their stories. We reached out to the creator of the social hashtag movement #28daysofBlackCosplay for an interview and reached out to cosplayers dressed as Nickelodeon characters on social media. The interview was combined with photos of the cosplays and made into social-first video content.
This campaign received tremendous support from the cosplay community and Nickelodeon fandom. Because of this support, we achieved over 5 million organic impressions. The video exceeded our engagement benchmarks by over 200%. It’s currently one of our highest-viewed Facebook videos of 2022 with over 1.5 million views. This is all due to the fans sharing our content to support the movement and its empowering message.
