When Pepsi Met Mango, An Unexpected Love Story

Objectives

Tinder is all about human connections for everyone no matter what your interests are. Created for the most open-minded generation, we believe the fewer filters, the better! During the pandemic, we quickly learned that the rules of dating were changing. Now more than ever, singles were ditching their “checklist” and were open to long-distance dates, virtual hangouts, and so much more!

That’s why we teamed up with Pepsi to celebrate the launch of Pepsi Mango and highlight how Pepsi and Mango is a surprising, yet satisfyingly perfect match. We also helped singles meet their own potential perfect match with data-driven tips and tricks for dating during the pandemic, all rooted in our proprietary data and our pandemic dating insights. For the first time ever, we gave users the chance to win a pandemic-friendly, Virtual Date Night Kit for two, that included unexpected surprises, and encouraged them to tune into Match Me If You Can, a new reality dating crossover event on MTV’s YouTube where eight reality TV stars from different franchises came together for a surprising second chance at love, all inspired by Pepsi Mango.

Strategy and Execution

To bring the story of how Pepsi met Mango to life:

Tinder launched a custom Native Display Card on the platform to invite users to enter to win a curated Virtual Date Night Kit which included a can of Pepsi Mango, tickets to a virtual comedy show (courtesy of The Comedy Bar), a Pepsi branded cocktail mixer kit, and a Truth or Dare card game to spark conversation! Winners also received a shareable link to send to their date, which allowed them to redeem a kit as well. A brand new twist on a giveaway and a first-ever for Tinder, perfect for our date-ready singles. In addition to the 100 winners on Tinder, we also delivered kits to fans of Pepsi Mango and Match Me If You Can.

To bring the story of how Pepsi met Mango we created a Tinder profile for Pepsi Mango and Pepsi Zero Sugar Mango . Leveraging a short bio and a post-match message, we positioned Pepsi Mango as the perfect wingman and shared some pandemic-friendly dating tips such as 1) schedule a video date 2) plan a date night activity 3) don’t limit your filters. We also teased MTV’s Match Me If You Can tune-in information, driving awareness for the premiere.

Lastly, we launched Native Display Cards on Chispa, our Latin dating app that delivered sweet dating tips from Pepsi Mango. To bring surprising yet enjoyable moments of joy to our audience, we encouraged them to ditch their dating checklist and tune in to MTV’s Match Me If You Can for more dating tips.
