Taco Tuesday® “Meating Maker”

Business Goal: Plain and simple, we need to be part of consumers’ Tuesday routine, driving more traffic to Taco John’s on Tuesdays. 

Brand Goal: As an already-popular hashtag, #tacotuesday drives additional social engagement and we wanted to grow our follows, converting those already in our mobile experience to our social channels.

UX Goal: Make the steps to add our “Meating Maker” as seamless and simple as the idea itself.

Strategy and Execution

As the inventor of Taco Tuesday®, an every-week discount on our signature tacos, Taco John’s wanted to ensure it captured as many visits as possible on Tuesdays, which contribute heavily to both brand (social engagement) and business (traffic and transaction) success. Therefore, we didn’t want there to be any chance Taco John’s fans forgot Taco Tuesday®—or worse, celebrated elsewhere! 

So we created The “Meating Maker”: a downloadable calendar reminder that pops up on Mondays to drive awareness and again on Tuesdays to drive traffic. We wanted this to be as simple as possible, so we utilized a QR code (displayed in-store, on table, on packaging, and within social), which launches the option of adding Taco Tuesday® to your calendar. And it only takes three clicks to go from QR code to calendar reminder. Added bonus: the user experience points people to our App downloads for further discounts and showcases our social channels to drive engagement.


We just launched at the time of submission, so no hard numbers to date. That said, our entire agency team made it to Taco Tuesday® last week, a 100% attendance rate first for us!
