Comedy Central's Pass the Mic

Finalist in Micro-Influencer Strategy

Comedy Central is committed to working with talented comedians and creators to inform, educate, and make people laugh. We believe that comedy is a force for good.

Our goal is to leverage comedy to have urgent, important, and honest conversations about complex issues, particularly around diversity, equity, and inclusion. We also wanted to ensure that our participation in DEI observances (Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Pride, etc) celebrated and amplified voices from individuals within these communities.

Strategy and Execution

We partner with up-and-coming comedians and creators to take over Comedy Central’s Instagram Story. Talent is asked to tell a story that feels true to them and their unique experiences in their community. Some of these stories have been more political in nature, and some have been informative. We support the talent to tell a story that is true to them and how they feel about their communities and experiences.

We lean into Instagram Stories because of the playful, low-fi nature of the platform, which gives talent additional creative freedom.

We save all Stories to our Highlights after publishing so that they can be viewed permanently.

We worked with 15 creators and comedians in 2021 for 18 takeovers, which garnered 2M+ organic views.
