This happened to me in real life, and I've seen the stuff in the news about racism and always knew it was out there but once it happens in front of you...you realize you have two options you can look away or do something about it. I chose to do something about it. I want to get my friends story out there, my friend is one of the sweetest guys you could meet. I've been friends with him for over 17 + years and he is a comic book nerd, otaku(anime lover), and all around awesome dude. It pained me to see this happen to him in person and prompt me to write and make Riding with Sunshine. This is my first short film and I was lucky enough to have an awesome group of people who came together for our mutual friend and stuck by him.
We want people to see what is happening and we want people who are dealing with this on a daily basis just like our friend to know they are not alone. I know this is a sensitive subject but being a daughter of a former police officer and having other family members who work in law enforcement and grew up respecting law enforcement it turned my stomach to see this first hand. Our goal is to reach as many people as we can and to make a difference!!
To screen at film festivals, libraries, NAACP of Spring Valley NY, and where ever would have us come and talk about the film and spread the awareness of the subject and to get my friends story out there.
We were able to reach alot of people at film festivals and got some media coverage but being an independent film company we could alway use more to get our story out there.
