TripSavvy ventures beyond the traditional travel site, meeting users with digestible travel knowledge to plan the best possible vacation to any destination. Written by experts – locals with hometown pride, parents who are road trip heroes, cruise junkies who know every ship at sea – TripSavvy establishes a direct connection between writer and reader. With beautiful, simple navigation and trustworthy content, TripSavvy gives users the confidence to spend their vacations vacationing instead of fumbling with a guidebook.

In just over two years, TripSavvy emerged as a leader in its category – monthly US unique visitors have grown 200% from approximately 3.2MM in June 2017 to 10MM in August 2019 according to comScore. Driven by TripSavvy’s extensive library of audience insights, TripSavvy uniquely focuses on user-intent, which helps provide not only the answers users are looking for, but relevant additional topics and tips to the entire travel process. Intent targeting also positions TripSavvy completely unreliant on cookies as they decline.

TripSavvy’s commitment to the ultimate user experience involves constant updates and additions to meet every consumer need, including extending accessibility, supplementing content on social media platforms, and reviewing content for accuracy every 4-6 months, and awarding outstanding travel destinations. Now the #5 largest ad-supported site in the Travel Information category, TripSavvy reaches new consumers seeking an approachable, comprehensive, and intimate online travel experience every day.

Strategy and Execution

Tripsavvy launched in 2017 as a new kind of travel site – one written by experts with feet on the ground around the world, instead of an endless dictionary of travel jargon and destinations. A desire to connect with users in the excitement of travel planning from curiosity to booking to landing inspired TripSavvy as an intent-based site with all the tools users need. 

To achieve that mission, TripSavvy functions and evolves with embedded designers within each agile development team, working side-by-side with product and engineering. Designers work on projects in real-time, skillfully collaborating to create directly in the browser, delivering compelling, dynamic products at a rapid rate. Last year, product and design delivered new interactive maps that aid visualization, planning, and on-location services. Using a simple, intuitive navigation system and content cards, TripSavvy facilitates discovery, research, and on-location services throughout travel planning.

TripSavvy’s editorial team reviews current content every 4-6 months to ensure complete accuracy, while it’s intent-based targeting consistently serves users with only the answers they were seeking when they landed on the site, with relevant topics and next steps. Intent-targeting is made possible by Dotash’s over 20-years-worth of audience insights, which help provide answers for users the moment they need them, without cookies. TripSavvy guarantees users a non-invasive, informative, and pleasurable experience each time they visit the site. 

Most recently, TripSavvy launched its second-annual TripSavvy Editor’s Choice Awards, naming 600 of the world’s absolute best travel destinations based on a two-step approach. More than 60,000 businesses across the world were reviewed for the 2019 awards, with only one percent passing TripSavvy's editors' rigorous testing and standards. This heavily-curated winners were chosen for their exceptional service and customer experience. First, the Dotdash data team uses machine-learning technology to pinpoint outstanding businesses from insights including reviews across the Internet and audience metrics from TripSavvy. The team matches those findings against TripSavvy's expert content to identify businesses and destinations that outrank competitors in quality, considering elements such as customer service, value and category fit. Finally, TripSavvy’s seasoned editors and writers scour the results, highlighting the most special, noteworthy, and trustworthy businesses.
