Creator, producer, writer and star Donald Glover said it best, “I’m not making a TV show, I am making an experience.” Anyone who has seen the show, or stumbled onto their social media channels understand why, as few programs use social media to break the fourth wall like FX’s Atlanta. Since season one, Atlanta has used Twitter and other social media platforms in uncharacteristic ways, drawing their audience of 150K+ followers into the surreal world of the show with references that fill in the audience between episodes. The show focuses on hard issues like police brutality, poverty, homophobia, transphobia, and mental illness, touching on the darker side of social media in an episode titled “Champagne Papi.”
