Tasa is a task management platform designed to be simple and inclusive, especially for people with literacy challenges. It's an app that uses pictures to help users handle tasks in industries such as hospitality, cleaning, and construction. In these industries, effective communication is crucial, but it can be difficult with text-based tools.
We aim to assist people who struggle with reading or writing to use digital tools, overcoming language barriers and enhancing communication in different work settings. We believe that no one should be left behind in our society and that every issue can be solved.
Being able to communicate properly, being able to fulfil your personal work role to companies’ satisfaction and therefore to provide for yourself and your family is an important part of self-respect and dignity. We should never neglect dignity because some people are unfortunate to receive proper education.
Tasa uses images, videos, and voice messages to make it easy for users with limited literacy skills to understand and complete tasks. This approach helps improve their job opportunities and better integrate them into the workforce. The app is also crucial in emergencies, facilitating quick communication between first responders and local communities.
Our broader aim is to reach 1 billion people who struggle with traditional communication tools, creating a more connected and responsive world.
Tasa was developed to solve communication problems for people worldwide, but especially in industries with low-literacy workers.
We got approached by one of the oldest Colivings worldwide, the SunDesk in Morocco, who was facing exactly this issue while collaborating with a foreign boss, young and well-educated hosts and older and illiterate workers.
We began by thoroughly researching the needs of these workers and the problems they face with traditional task management tools. We discovered that a picture-based app, enhanced by audio and video, would be best at reducing communication barriers and promote digital inclusion.
To bring this idea to life, we prioritized making the app simple and user-friendly. We worked closely with the whole SunDesk team to make sure we were developing for the client, solving their exact needs.
We created key features like image-based task assignments, an image-based feedback function, voice and video messaging to ensure users with different literacy levels could complete tasks without relying on text. We also included QR code technology to simplify onboarding, because our target group is not familiar with handling passwords for logins. But we are not done here yet; the next step is to smartly include AI to lower the barriers even more.
One significant challenge was ensuring the app was both easy to use and strong enough to meet our target users’ various needs. Many of these users were new to smartphones, so we conducted extensive user testing with low-literacy groups in multiple countries, including Morocco and Thailand. Their feedback was essential in refining the app’s interface and features. Among the workers, Tasa is often the only app they are able to use.
Another challenge we are facing is the general use Tasa offers, but the lack of creativity in how to use it best. To support our users finding out how to make the best out of Tasa, we are creating videos with various use cases, checklists and tutorials. This way we guide our users to more productivity.
In the end, Tasa enhances the productivity of the whole company while empowering the team to collaborate directly, improving workplace satisfaction and welcoming new users to our modern digital world.
We aim to see a significant increase in job opportunities for our users, especially in fields like hospitality and construction, where clear communication is crucial.
The app’s ability to simplify task management using images and voice tools has proven valuable for both employers and employees, leading to increased productivity and job satisfaction.
Tasa’s success is evident in the positive feedback we've received from users and organizations. By closing the gap between low-literacy workers and digital tools, Tasa has not only increased job opportunities and productivity but has also fostered a greater sense of inclusion and empowerment among its users.
This achievement aligns perfectly with our mission to assist 1 billion people struggling with traditional communication methods, making Tasa a successful innovation in digital technology and social impact.
Being often the only app the workers are able to use, we already see we are heading in the right direction creating a gateway to the mobile world for everyone.
While measuring and analyzing metrics, using interviews for feedback, counting the average use time and more is essential to understand that our solution is going for success, there are sometimes simpler possibilities to see we are on the right track:
When you personally see a worker smile while check-marking her finished tasks.
