Introducing the Andis Creator Series. Stories highlighting unique individuals utilizing creativity to make the world a better place. For volume 1, BLVR traveled to Compton to showcase how the Compton Cowboys inspire others to create their way.
Andis is a beauty and barbering brand that makes hair clippers and trimmers based out of Wisconsin. Traditionally the beauty and barber category showed very conventional representations of customers and the community at large. Our objective was to widen the conversation and offer a more diverse and impactful narrative.
With Andis being a brand rooted in originality, community, and creativity, embracing others living out the same core values was essential. The Compton Cowboys are emblematic of everything the Andis brand strives for; they have an essence and aesthetic all their own. They create their way by uplifting the community through their youth equestrian programs. It was an initiative that resonated deeply with Andis, and it just made for the perfect collaboration. This is a case where true brand alignment rises to the top, allowing for a beautiful outcome.
We knew we wanted something that felt raw and real with cinematic influences. We were a fly on the wall; we weren’t trying to sell anything beyond an authentic story of community and impact, so as a result, the film needed to feel that way. Our influences came from everyday life. Thinking about those California blues and golds and the dust from the ranch, being ingrained in the city of Compton, all came into play. Nothing was forced or overly produced. Confidence, quick decisions, and on-set synergy allowed us to accomplish a great deal in a short shoot period.
We’ve seen considerable surges in engagement within the Andis grooming community. More individuals are becoming ingrained with local ranches and farms, building brighter communities for the next generation. A cross-pollination of street culture and farm culture creating positive paths for the youth has significantly resulted from work and collaboration. Really beautiful, natural things that are happening through word of mouth and connection due to the storytelling. For Andis, this has opened doors to capture more stories and become more connected to culture across the globe, celebrating the ones who are creating their way.
Aside from work, getting to know the cowboys on a deeper level was everything. Seeing how much impact they have on their neighbors, community, and each other is infectious. And to be welcomed with open arms at the ranch, share stories and hang out outside of being on set was a true testament to who they are.
