About this entry

The MTV EMA – MTV's global celebration of the hottest stars in music – recognizes artists from around the world and across genres, and brings together music fans everywhere for a one-of-a-kind experience in the weeks leading up to and at the show. The 2013 MTV EMA aired across MTV's global network of more than 60 channels, reaching nearly 700 million households around the world as well as through syndication. The 2013 MTV EMA’s free iOS mobile app was localized into 10 languages and gave music fans around the globe the power to vote, watch videos, and get the latest breaking updates from their mobile devices. The 2013 MTV EMA mobile app was downloaded almost 100,000 times from the launch of voting on 17 September through the live broadcast of the show on 10 November. The app offered music fans around the world a rich, multifaceted digital experience in the lead-up to the show and during the live broadcast from Amsterdam on 10 November. Users on the go could access the wealth of content available on the mtvema.com desktop sites, including music videos, photo galleries, and the latest breaking updates on the EMA. They could join a fan team and earn points to support that artist in the race for the Biggest Fans EMA. And most vital to the EMA audience of passionate music lovers, they could vote for their favourite artists to win across all categories, anytime, anywhere. On the night of the live broadcast, app users could watch the live stream of the show and the digital-exclusive backstage show, as well as behind-the-scenes webcams. They also got real-time updates on winners and a feed of inside scoop from the official MTV EMA Twitter and Instagram accounts. The 2013 MTV EMA mobile app also offered users a shot at their own moment in the spotlight, with the exclusive Sing It feature. Music fans could record and submit video of themselves singing a lyric from any of the 5 songs nominated for Best Song. Users from around the globe gave us their personal takes on the music of Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Robin Thicke, Daft Punk, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. And during the live show broadcast, a mashup of some of our favourite submissions was featured in the digital-exclusive backstage show. The Sing It feature captured fans’ passion for music and its ability to bring together people all over the globe in a shared experience.
