Protect the Protectors

Objectives

Every day, thousands of men and women put themselves in harm's way to protect and serve their communities. Since 2015, Canary® and State Farm® have partnered on a program called Protect the Protectors™, designed to provide security to first responders across the U.S., so that they too can know that their homes and loved ones are safe and secure.

Canary is an All-In-One home security system that connects you to your home and allows you to protect the people and places that matter most. With a HD Camera, Night Vision, Two-way audio, it is a cutting edge home security solution. By partnering with State Farm to deliver devices to first responders, we ensure those brave men and women putting themselves at risk, working long and hard hours to protect us, can also protect the people and places that matter most to them.

Strategy and Execution

We organized local community events around the USA over the course of two years where first responders from police, fire and EMS departments receive donated Canary devices.

Targeted event locations all across the country include Dallas, TX, Miami, FL, Gwinnett County, Georgia, Allentown, PA, San Diego, California, Hilo, Hawaii, Kansas City, MO, Suffolk County Long Island, NY and Newport News, VA.

By mobilizing local police and fire chiefs, mayors and dignitaries to speak at the events, we helped garner support by allowing these respected members of the community to spread the word about the program to their networks.

We developed a program-specific website (canary.is/protectors) to highlight the program with a feature video showcasing the power of the event; the website collected event location nominations from the community.

We developed and sold a unique product SKU for first responders with the Canary First Responder Pack, which included Canary, Canary Flex, and a year's subscription to our paid service as a significant discount for first responders.

We ran targeted social media and digital marketing campaigns and issue press releases to bolster the support of the program pre- and post-event in each local market.

Results

To date, we've donated more than 6,000 Canary security devices to first responders and their families in 47 communities across the United States.

On International Firefighters' Day, the Protect the Protectors hero video, showcasing the story of Kansas City firefighter Ryan Koehler took over the canary.is homepage, and has received 459,000 views across all platforms to date. more than any previously used content on the Canary website. when we did a Canary.is homepage takeover for International Firefighter's Day.

Protect the Protectors Digital Ads have received more than 3 million impressions to date.

The program has received 530+ press articles, with coverage from outlets such as ABC News, NBC News, Curbed, MIT Technology Review, and more.
