The Renewal Project

Entered in Multi-Platform Campaign

Objectives

At a time when the national political debate is polarized and paralyzed, The Renewal Project seeks to empower a movement to rethink America from the ground up. It honors local innovators in communities nationwide who are taking action and making real progress against the challenges facing our nation. By launching a unified social platform that celebrates such innovators, it aspires to inspire social good and positions Allstate as a different kind of company—one with local roots and a steadfast commitment to helping the communities it serves.

Strategy and Execution

Since 2009, Allstate and Atlantic Media have worked together to highlight the struggles of the middle class in the face of a recession and create a path towards renewal and growth. This year, Allstate and Atlantic Media Strategies (AMS) launched The Renewal Project, a social-first website and newsroom that spotlights individuals and organizations advancing social good and contributing to civic innovation in America. The branded initiative celebrates innovation, strength, and ingenuity in communities looking to solve big problems and brings stories of the local heroes behind these efforts to a national audience. It achieves wide reach across social media, while also building a core audience by giving passersby opportunities to share, dive deeper, and return time and again.

Components of The Renewal Project include:

  • Social Newsroom: A social universe for Allstate's campaign, including a digital home, a constant drumbeat of social content (articles, videos, polls, events coverage), and extensions across multiple platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).
  • The Renewal Awards: A national competition recognizing local organizations driving positive change in their communities. Winner will be announced and honored at a national summit.
  • The Renewal Series (regional events): A yearlong series of events around the country convening local innovators and community leaders to talk about progress at the grassroots level.
  • Heartland Monitor Poll: Interactive polls tracking and exploring Americans' shifting economic attitudes and experiences. Results are disseminated through articles, data visualizations, and social content.
  • Native Advertising: A series of sponsored articles on TheAtlantic.com that chronicle the changing economic realities facing America for The Atlantic's influential audience.
