Inspired by the original series Human Resources, and in alignment with the network's mission to inspire and compel social change, Pivot joined forces with non-profit organizations Recycle Across America and 1% For The Planet to create awareness about the need for improved recycling levels in the U.S. and to transform the economics of sustainable manufacturing. Although the EPA estimates that 75% of solid waste is recyclable, recycling levels hover round 34% in the U.S. — leading to a dearth of recycled materials from which companies can manufacture sustainable products. Recycle Across America's standardized recycling labels can increase recycling levels by up to 100%, improving the overall sustainability of corporate supply chains and communities around the country. The campaign seeks to educate business leaders, local officials, and key influencers about tactics to improve recycling in their own organizations and communities.
To engage business leaders, local officials, and key influencers, Pivot teamed up with Recycle Across America and 1% For The Planet to host the 2016 "Brand Leaders Solution Summit". This event encouraged executives from Fortune 500 companies, as well as city officials and non-profit leaders, to confront the challenges to effective recycling within their own organizations and communities — while educating them about the effectiveness of Recycle Across America's standardized labeling solution. Tactics to engage attendees included:
By providing a forum for corporate and local leaders to interact with organizations that have successfully adopted the labeling solution, the brand summit was designed to compel these leaders to pursue the labeling solution within their own businesses or municipalities. The summit fostered open and candid conversation among peers within the business community, and created a collaborative environment and fostering a unified commitment to sustainability among these business leaders.
The brand summit attracted representatives from a broad cross-section of industries and organizations with a large collective footprint, including Amazon, Subaru, Swarovski, IMAX, GOOD Magazine, Dermatologica, the U.S. Green Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Zero Waste Building Council. As a result of Subaru of America's attendance at the Summit, Subaru committed to incorporating Recycle Across America's standardized labels within its "Zero Landfill Initiative" in collaboration with the National Park Service. Subsequently, the National Park Service has launched a pilot program of the labels within Denali, Grand Teton, and Yosemite National Parks and has committed to rolling out the labels in all 58 parks nationwide.
