The Remedy Podcast

Objective

NYC Health + Hospitals is the nation’s largest municipal health system serving over 1 million New Yorkers every year in more than 70 patient care locations across the city’s five boroughs.

While much has been reported on NYC Health + Hospitals dedication to providing health services to all New Yorkers, there has been scant attention to some of health system’s more innovative, trailblazing programs to prevent chronic disease through Lifestyle Medicine, prepare for global infectious disease outbreaks, provide telehealth abortion care, heal traumatized migrant women, and more. The Remedy Podcast was created to raise awareness of the public health pioneers and programs that are keeping New York City healthy.

 

Strategy

NYC Health + Hospitals partnered with Amaze Media Labs to produce the podcast, transforming a photo room in the health system’s lower Manhattan headquarters into a podcast studio.

To host the podcast, we selected Dr. Michael Shen, Medical Director of Adult Primary Care and Geriatrics ay NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull in Brooklyn. In addition to the advantage of Dr. Shen being a doctor in one of the city’s public hospitals, he also had prior experience in podcast production.

Our Episode topics explored a wide range of public health issues from Primary Care to Pandemic Preparedness to Homeless Health. One powerful episode discussed how NYC Health + Hospitals has managed caring for the hundreds of asylum seekers that have entered New York City, providing services including vaccinations, prenatal care and mental health support. Another fascinating episode discussed how NYC Health + Hospitals closely monitors global outbreaks in order to stay ahead of diseases that could be entering New York City.

To promote the Remedy podcast, we posted messages and audiogram clips on NYC Health + Hospitals Social Media platforms and promoted through our Internal Communications platforms including the intranet and a weekly e-newsletter.

 

Results

Since its launch on January 2, 2024, The Remedy has reported more than 14K downloads with an average consumption of 87.1% Total Impressions for Year to Date is more than 122K.

According to Industry Benchmark Data, The Remedy ranked in the Top 5% of all Podcasts and the Top 1% of Health & Fitness Podcasts.

Though based in New York City, The Remedy was downloaded by listeners in 10 other states including California, Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania.
