Dora’s Recipe for Adventure is a podcast that brings families together through cooking and cultural exploration, offering bilingual education in a fun, accessible way. This isn’t just a cooking show, however— the core of the show is a classic, Dora-style adventure. Preschool listeners get the opportunity to help Dora and Boots use problem-solving skills to find missing ingredients in Latin-inspired recipes. The aim is for cultural inclusion, introduction, exploration, and fun. Plus, the series ties it all together with original music. We designed this podcast for screen-free family time. Listening can happen in the morning while driving to school, at the dinner table, or while winding down. The aim is also to inspire preschoolers to get in the kitchen with their adults to cook up the delicious dishes prepared in the show.
Throughout the production and development of DORA’S RECIPE FOR ADVENTURE, we worked closely with our audience development, educational experts and spoke to families to make sure we were hitting the mark creatively. Importantly, we wanted to create a musical, magical new podcast series that everyone could enjoy. Our goal was to create a special new scripted series to spotlight Dora,Boots, Isa, Mami, Papi, Abuela, the whole gang and celebrate the Latin culture, food and stories. We know that the bi-lingual audience is underserved and we wanted to help fill that need. We sprinkled Spanish words and phrases throughout. Nick Podcasts hired award winning composers, writers, producers- who were bi-lingual- and whose heart was in creating best in class stories and songs from the heart. We wanted adventure stories through the rainforest, peppered with catchy songs about family and delicious food and that everyone would love to sing time and again. We approached the series as a musical where the songs move along the action. The warmth of the Latin culture is naturally imbued into storylines. We packed the series with all the colorful characters from Dora’s world and created a rich tapestry of songs, stories and adventure that families love. The audio podcast launched first and 3 D animated video podcasts of the DORA’S RECIPE FOR ADVENTURE followed to great success. Our challenge was to figure out ways to highlight the Latin culture and Spanish in a way that was fun and accessible to all. We wanted to have great music and include messages that were family friends but done in a warm and fun playful way that audiences could all enjoy. Our focus groups and downloads (including over 7.4 million views on our first animated podcast- Guava Goals) show that the audience is responding and approves.
Nick Podcasts is honored that the DORA’S RECIPE FOR ADVENTURE audio podcast won the Gold Listener’s Choice Award for Best Kids Podcast. This award was voted on by our audience. The YouTube 3D animated video version of DORA’S RECIPE FOR ADVENTURE premiered to great success. The first episode, GUAVA GOALS has 7.4 million views and counting.
