Since 1994 The Food Depot, located in Santa Fe NM, has been on a mission to create food secure futures. Their objective is simple—find safe and healthy surplus food that’s no longer wanted and get it to the people who need it most. The mission is fueled by the movement of their staff, volunteers, and community partners across Northern New Mexico to provide nourishing food and advocate for systems change.
DocuFilms, a 501(c)(3) film production company produced the documentary, “Movement”. We filmed many of the programs, food distributions, staff, volunteers and several longtime community partners of The Food Depot.
The Food Depot covers 29,000 square miles of northern New Mexico delivering over 11 million pounds of food to communities that lack, or have limited access to, affordable and nutritious food.
Telling their story in a concise but entertaining film was a challenge. With 40 full time staff, over 900 volunteers, thousands of weekly food recipients and a robust fleet of food delivery and mobile food distribution trucks.
Even after 30 years of critical community service, The Food Depot remains relatively obscure. Our hope is this film brings some well deserved attention to their volunteer recruitment and fund raising efforts.
