Try Guy, Eugene Lee Yang, has always been proud to represent the state of Texas and was ready to help take on the big issues with the candidate for Governor, Beto O’Rourke. They both oppose the Texas Republicans that have embraced harmful policies that many Texans do not agree with. These issues not only face the state of Texas, but also face the nation, and Eugene set out to represent those throughout the state that are also demanding new and better leadership from the candidate that represents their interests. In this documentary-style video on the Try Guys Channel, Eugene aimed to showcase the issues facing working Texans, the need for new political leadership in the state, and get out a call to have all citizens in the state vote on election day in October 2022.
Leading up to the gubernatorial election in Texas, Eugene Lee Yang joined Beto O'Rourke on the campaign trail in Texas to help advocate for him for Governor, and to advocate for the people of Texas, the vital issues facing the state and the nation. Eugene helped to host a Town Hall fundraiser event in San Antonio, Texas with Beto, which served as a template for the issues that were important to the people of Texas and the issues that formed Beto’s platform.
The project started as an idea to document Eugene’s time working with Beto in Texas on this Town Hall fundraiser but came to life as Eugene and the crew on the project brought together even more information to better inform and advocate for those issues discussed at this important event. They worked to add in necessary context with Eugene’s direct-to-camera interview regarding the history of each major issue discussed and then mixed in interviews with those impacted by these issues, politicians that had been working or previously worked in Texas, or experts that work closely with organizations that deal with these issues. These issues discussed included issues associated with the overturning of Roe v Wade, issues surrounding voting rights, the electrical infrastructure in Texas, jobs, immigration, healthcare, LGBTQ+ rights, and gun control.
Bringing together all the footage collected from the town hall fundraising event, interviews, and Eugene’s direct-to-camera narration, the resulting documentary-style video was released prior to the campaign on the Try Guys YouTube Channel. Although O’Rourke won in 19 counties across Texas, including the large population centers of Dallas, Harris, Travis, and El Paso counties, Beto was unable to pull off a victory in this notoriously Republican state. Despite the election results, this video was one that Eugene and the other Try Guys, and the entire company at 2nd Try LLC were proud to be a part of and present to those inside and outside of their fanbase. The video was a successful view into the issues that are most important and relevant to so many in Texas and across the country.
