Objectives

IFC leveraged LinkedIn as a strategic communication tool to educate and inform online audiences about its work with the private sector in to end poverty and boost shared prosperity in developing economies. Content and campaigns deployed on content fostered awareness about IFC’s impact in using private sector solutions to drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve people's lives.

The channel also served as a platform for IFC to share thought leadership and insights on key issues in private sector development, such as sustainability, gender equality, creative industries, disruptive technology, and financial inclusion.

Strategy and Execution

IFC's strategy on LinkedIn includes a multi-pronged approach that leverages engaging content, live broadcasts, strategic partnerships, and employee engagement.

The content strategy focuses on creating and sharing high-quality, visually appealing posts that educate and inform the audience about IFC's work. This includes impact stories of IFC's projects and investments in emerging markets, interactive web content, career opportunities and job openings, media engagements by the Managing Director and activities of other management team members and thought leadership content and reports.

Live broadcasts are also an integral part of IFC's LinkedIn strategy as they allow the institution to connect with its audience in real-time and have dynamic conversations on relevant topics.  The institution also leverages its network of strategic partners to co-create content and amplify its reach. Employee engagement is a key component of IFC's LinkedIn strategy. IFC uses staff stories on LinkedIn to give audiences behind-the-curtain views of private sector development work, helping to humanize the institution and build a strong sense of community among followers.

Results

IFC's LinkedIn channel gained more than 100,000 new followers in the 2022 calendar year, further cementing the IFC's status as the development finance institution with the third largest presence on LinkedIn. Post published from the channel generated more than 9 million impressions and over 240,000 engagements, demonstrating the effectiveness of IFC's approach to engaging its audience and communicating its impact. Live broadcasts on IFC's LinkedIn channel in 2022 attracted thousands of live viewers from more than 90 countries and territories. More than 160,000 people subscribed to IFC Insights LinkedIn Newsletter within the first four months of its launch. The growth in followers and engagement has allowed IFC to reach a wider audience, including potential clients and investors, and to build stronger relationships with its stakeholders. The institution's thought leadership and expertise on private sector development has also been amplified, positioning IFC as a leading voice in the field.
