Micro videos are short form videos produced in one day following the news agenda or trending conversations. The videos are published in our social media platforms, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn. The objective of these videos is to: Take part in the current conversation, Raise HRW profile, Highlight our research, Respond to breaking news.
Human Rights Watch was present in Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion. Our researchers were documenting the human rights violations that were taking place there while forging relationships with people who were directly affected. Using original and agency footage we produce several, quick turnaround, videos documenting the invasion, the use of illegal weapons, the evacuation efforts etc.
Our team of researchers on the ground managed to quickly build relationships with different people around Ukraine that shared videos and pictures with Human Rights Watch. We verified everything and quickly put together short videos to denounce all the atrocities that were happening in Ukraine. Since we had original pictures and footage many news outlets around the world reached out asking for the images and for comments from our experts about the human rights and international laws violations. At the same time the organization managed to stay relevant and voice the issue in a timely manner for a wider audience that was following the invasion. Some of the videos we did have been some of our top performers and widely shared. Since Human Rights Watch is an NGO we do not monetize from our videos and we do not pay for distribution. All of our views are organic.
